Escribolt

Escribolt provides a multi-panel workspace environment designed to keep your voice logs, chats, and transcript notes organized. Here is a breakdown of how to navigate and customize your workflow workspace.

Sidebar Layout Sections

The left-hand sidebar is your central navigation hub. It is organized into distinct functional panels that keep your workspace assets tidy:

  • Pinned: A quick-access area at the top of the sidebar. You can pin notes, recordings, chats, or folder spaces to this list for immediate access.
  • Spaces (Folders): Your custom workspace directories (folders and sub-folders) where you organize documents by projects or clients.
  • Library Lists (Notes, Recordings, Chats): Flat, searchable indexes of all documents in your database categorized by type:
    • Notes: Rich text documents and formatting templates.
    • Recordings: Audio transcripts, meeting summaries, and loopback captures.
    • Chats: Multi-turn AI Ask chat threads.
  • Recent: An auto-updating panel listing your most recently created or modified workspace items.

Width Tuning: Adjust the sidebar width by dragging the right border edge, or collapse it completely by pressing the sidebar toggle icon in the top header.

Spaces & Folder Customization

Create organizational categories to bundle related notes and meetings. Right-click the sidebar or folder headers to add folders.

Clicking a folder opens the Customize Space panel, offering visual overrides:

  • Workspace Custom Name: Provide a unique space name. If cleared, Escribolt defaults to "Untitled space".
  • 50+ Icon Assets: Assign custom icons (e.g. Terminal, CPU, Briefcase, Database, Sparkles, Trophy, etc.) using live keywords search tags mapping.
  • Color Palette: Group spaces with color-coded tags: .

Drag-and-Drop Rules & Capabilities

Escribolt supports drag-and-drop gestures in the sidebar for sorting and re-organizing items under specific rules to keep listings clean:

  • Pinned & Space Folder Items are Draggable: Any note, recording, or chat session that has been pinned, or is nested inside a Space Folder, can be dragged to re-order it or drop it onto another space folder in the sidebar.
  • Main Library Lists are Not Draggable: The main flat listings under the Notes, Recordings, and Chats sections are static, query-based index lists. Items in these lists cannot be directly dragged or moved. To move a note, recording, or chat in these lists to a space, right-click the item card to trigger the context action menu and select Add to Space or Move to Space.

Folder Deletion Safety

When you delete a folder, the notes, recordings, and chats inside it are not deleted. Escribolt automatically reparents nested child folders to the parent directory and releases files back to the default library root, preventing accidental data loss.

Floating Pop-out Note Windows

Double-click any note title in your dashboard sidebar list to pop it out into a standalone macOS window.

  • Always on Top: Popped-out notes float above other active desktop applications (like IDEs, browsers, or Zoom meetings) while you dictate or reference notes.
  • Auto-saving Daemon: Any typing edits, formatting changes, or dictation append results save back to your local SQLite database in real time.

Tab Bar Controls

The central panel features a tab bar that lists active notes, recordings, and Ask chats side by side.

  • Re-ordering: Drag any tab header left or right to re-arrange its sequence on the bar.
  • Tab Persistence: When you relaunch Escribolt, the tab state is loaded from a snapshot stored in your database config settings, restoring open tabs and active selections.
  • Closing Fallback: Closing the active tab automatically switches focus to the nearest tab (left or right). If no tabs remain open, Escribolt falls back to the default dashboard list.

Breadcrumbs & Header Space Path Switcher

The top header displays the navigation path of your active item in the format: Space Folder / Subfolder / Title.

  • Hover over any folder segment in the breadcrumb path to trigger an interactive switcher panel.
  • The switcher displays all sibling spaces, child folders, and files inside that directory directory level.
  • Click any item inside the dropdown list to immediately jump to that note or recording.
