Because Escribolt intercepts system shortcuts globally (so you can dictate and take notes without switching active windows), macOS requires several system permissions. Upon first launch, the application will prompt you for access.
Required Permissions
Microphone Access
Required to capture live audio signals from your microphone during hotkey dictation, quick sticky notes, and meeting recordings.
Accessibility Permissions
Required to support global system listener triggers. Without this, Escribolt cannot intercept keyboard hooks system-wide when minimized.
Input Monitoring
Required for global keyboard shortcut bindings (e.g. Fn + Space, Ctrl + N) to trigger immediate dictation streams and toggle panels instantly.
How to Manually Authorize Settings
If you skipped the initial prompts or need to reset permissions:
- Open System Settings on your Mac.
- Navigate to Privacy & Security.
- Select each of the sections listed above (Microphone, Accessibility, and Input Monitoring).
- Ensure the toggle switch next to Escribolt is enabled.
- Restart the Escribolt application to apply the changes.
