Escribolt is proud to make its desktop client source code public and visible. To guarantee developer freedom, cooperation with the community, and complete local privacy, we utilize a strong copyleft licensing model.
Escribolt Desktop License
Our desktop application is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0) or later:
- Open Source Copyleft: Anyone can inspect, modify, and build the application. Any modified versions or network services derived from it must also be published under the AGPL-3.0 or later.
- No Warranty: The software is provided as-is without any warranty.
- Trademark Excluded: The open-source license governs code usage but does not grant trademark rights. See our Trademark Policy below.

Trademark Policy
Although the source code is open-source under the GNU AGPL v3.0 or later, this license does not grant trademark rights.
- Ownership: The Escribolt name, logo, app icon, visual identity, domain names, official update channels, signed builds, and related marks are owned by IAMJUNKI / Escribolt. You may use the Escribolt name to truthfully refer to this project, discuss it, link to it, or identify an unmodified copy of the official project.
- Restrictions: You may not use the Escribolt name, logo, app icon, or confusingly similar branding for a modified version, fork, commercial service, packaged app, website, domain name, social account, or marketing material without written permission.
- Forks and Modifications: If you distribute a modified version, use your own name and branding. You may state that your project is "based on Escribolt" or "a fork of Escribolt" if that statement is accurate and not more prominent than your own project name.
- Official Channels: Official macOS builds, notarized releases, update feeds, account services, cloud services, and paid Escribolt services are provided only through Escribolt-controlled channels.
- Commercial Use: For permission to use Escribolt branding in a commercial, white-label, enterprise, or partnership context, contact Escribolt through the official website.
Rights of the End User
As an end user of our application, you retain the following rights:
- Code Visibility: Users can inspect the client-side code to verify Escribolt's strict local privacy boundary (no telemetry, no backdoor tracking).
- Personal Compilations: Individual users are encouraged to compile the desktop client from source for personal use on their own macOS devices.
